APRIL BUCKET LIST

Spring events in the Netherlands,
Fun water rituals in Thailand,
Jazz fest in New Orleans

TULIPS AND ORANGE DAY

To see dozens of vibrant colors in the Netherlands flower fields in April is without an exaggeration, on the bucket list of millions of travellers . If you are among them – Keukenhof gardens in the southern part of the country is the place to be, so that you can snap your very own photo of an old windmill sinking in the colourful tulip sea.

Even though good half of the images that you saw in the internet, those insta-perfect ones with tulips and a pretty windmill at the background, have been taken in Suncheon Bay Garden in South Korea or in the tulip festival in Chiba, Japan 😉 But please don’t let this fact put you off the trip to beautiful Netherlands!

There are also blooming areas a bit less populated with tourists, like those of Emmeloord and Dronten in the north. A note for those who are are on a tight schedule like us – don’t forget to check the tulips updates and get the very best out of your trip

Another cool thing to experience in the Netherlands this April is Koningsdag. King’s Day is the nationwide celebration of acting King Willem Alexander’s birthday, featuring music events, flea markets, fun fairs, street parties, parades and other mass gatherings of super positive hollanders.

Bring your best orange outfit (orange is the colour of the Royal family in Holland), wear it on April the 27th and raise a glass of eponymous koningsdag cocktail to the King. Cheers!

THAI SONGKRAN

Considered one of Thailand’s most important festivals, Songkran is celebrated annually (on 13th of April) to mark the beginning of the Thai New Year. How do you wish a Happy New Year to a stranger in Thailand? Easy. By dumping a bucket of cold water over his head! Trust me, bathing in any ocean, sea or river never will you feel more wet than after spending a few hours in the crowd that celebrates Songkran…

A couple of years ago we were lucky to find ourselves in Silom Road, Bangkok on the New Year day and it was a truly extraordinary experience, sooo much fun! There is no mercy, refreshing cold water showers on you from every corner, sometimes at the moment you least expect it! Therefore the important thing here is not to be a victim, but bravely fight back. Whenever you decide to join the water fun, do bring a water gun for a sweet revenge, one can refill it from canisters and barrels that are placed right there in the streets. And don’t forget a proper water resistant bag (we had one for kayaking with us since we were heading to Cheow Lan lake later on). Underwater phone or camera cases will do the job as well

LIFE IS A LOT LIKE JAZZ.
IT’S BEST WHEN YOU IMPROVISE

New Orleans – the capital and the cradle of Jazz – gives us opportunity to witness it leaving the walls of bars and clubs and spreading over miles of the open space. New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival will start on April 28th in 2023 and will last 2 usual weekends.

Besides Jazz icons, one can expect to see an impressive variety of the best bands in the music history. Ranging from rock to rap, there are great names to make everyone happy, those we all know from the childhood and youth. Check the Lineup for yourself.
